The Fire Marshal's office (a group of volunteers) is comprised of the Fire Marshal, Deputy Fire Marshal and others as appointed that provide Amity Township fire prevention services. The Fire Marshal has several responsibilities:
Fire Safety Inspections and Code Equipment
The Fire Marshal will perform fire safety inspections on local businesses, schools, daycare facilities and other properties throughout the Township. Inspections will ensure compliance with the Internationa Fire Codes (IFC) 2006 and the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) and answer any questions relating to fire codes.
Investigations
The office investigates the origin and causes of fires. The methodology used includes: the recognition of evidence, photographs, interviews, identification and preservation of evidence, reports and assistance from the State Fire Marshal's office and Amity Police Department as required.
Fire Prevention & Education
This is reserved and maintained by the two local fire companies in Amity. Amity Fire Company #49 located at 47 Pine Forge Rd. Douglassville and Monarch Fire Company #6 located at 50 Pennsylvania Ave. Birdsboro.
Engineering and Plan Review
The Fire Marshal will assist the Code Enforcement office with plan reviews, site plan review and final inspections and testing of systems.

Over twenty five (25) years in fire fighting service, the last 6 years with the Amity Fire Company, currently serving as Lieutenant. Eight (8) years providing safety inspections and arson investigations. Also a certified Fire Inspector I, Arson Investigator (NJ certified) and numerous fire certificated in fire fighting. Prior to Amity, served 19 years in the Pennsauken Fire Department with the last five years as Second Deputy Chief.
Deputy Fire Marshal - Derrick Nester FM26-1
Over fifteen (15) years experience in the fire fighting service all with the Amity Fire Company, 8 of them as a line officer and currently employed as a fire fighter with a local Berks County borough for the last two years. Currently certified with Fire Inspector I and numerous other national certifications including Firefighter I & II and Fire Instructor I & II.
